On That Glad Night offers up a variety of pieces that contemplate what it means to be human, in music for chorus and strings by Bach, Corigliano, Barber, Bach, and Gjeilo. Dylan Thomas’ poem “Fern Hill” is nostalgic, playful, and ultimately mournful; James Stephens’ poems from Reincarnations explore the ecstasy, deep grief, and tenderness of love. In his sixth motet, Bach sturdily expresses his faith through Psalm 117, while St. John of the Cross’ subtle poetry depicts the soul’s journey from life to death. The Nashoba Valley Chorale will be joined by the UMass Lowell Choirs, Dr. Jonathan Richter, conductor.
