The Nashoba Valley Chorale (“The Chorale”) was formed with a dream of a choir open to all singers and with a mission to present choral masterworks in our communities. And here we are, 50 years later…
We believe every voice matters. As a non-auditioned choir with 100+ singers, we strive to unite hearts and voices to create music that lifts spirits, sparks joy and strengthens the bonds of our community. Through a welcoming space and a rich variety of music, we celebrate the magic of harmony and the shared human experience.
Singers join us from many towns throughout the Nashoba Valley, as well as from all over the metro-west area and southern New Hampshire. We rehearse in Acton and perform in various venues across Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Currently under the direction of Anne Watson Born and collaborative pianist Shawn McCann, our musical interests are diverse.
Emerging Artists. Our Emerging Artists program showcases local young artists (under age 26) by featuring them as soloists in one of our concerts each year. Since we began the program in 2017,
we have provided a venue for young musicians to perform with a hundred voice choir, a professional orchestra and a professional conductor. Since 2021, we have awarded a stipend to our Emerging Artists in addition to providing them with a professional recording of their performance. Chorale Emerging Artists have gone on to careers as composers, conductors, performers, academics and teachers. We are ever grateful to have contributed to the musical life of these young people and to the life of our community.
Concert Ticket “Pay What You Can”. For concerts managed directly by the Chorale in recent years, through the generous support from our sponsor community, as well as grants funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and local towns, the Chorale has been fortunate to offer a “Pay What You Can” ticketing model to encourage and allow our patrons to pay what they can afford for our concerts.
Collaborations. The Chorale enjoys collaborating with other New England ensembles, including the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra, the Vista Philharmonic Orchestra, the Worcester Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the UMass Lowell Choral Ensembles, among others.
The Nashoba Valley Chorale is a member of the Greater Boston Choral Consortium and of the Central Massachusetts Choral Consortium.
